# Adjunct Faculty: Theater 2027

Augsburg University

The Department of Theater at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach undergraduate courses in 2027. This search will establish a “pool” of instructors for potential openings in Spring 2027. Spring 2027 Course Opening: THR 271 Black Theater
• 2 credit course Monday, Wednesday, Friday 2:20 PM
• 3:20 PM What makes a performance a Black play? How does one take control of histories of oppression, problematic and nonexistent representations, hegemonic narratives, and linguistic forms to create a drama that speaks TO and FOR a community? How does one perform Blackness? And who gets to be counted as “black,” anyway? These questions are at the heart of this course, and will come up each week as we grapple with new plays, historical periods, and critical voices. The class offers students an introduction to the history of African American theatre, from the nineteenth century to the modern day, with a focus on how playwrights have evolved the dramatic form and claimed control of their identities to speak to Black lives, cultures, and histories. Available courses vary by term. Most classes are held during the day, 2-3 days per week. In addition to teaching the class and grading student work, instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, reach out to students with course progress information, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided. Most classes are taught in-person on our Minneapolis campus. Each course requires approximately 12-15 hours/week for 15-16 weeks. The successful candidate will possess both a high level of intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation.
