Child and Youth Program Assistant (Target Level/MVO) CY-02

This Flex position is with the School Age Center at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. A cut-off of 10/06/2026 will be used to send eligible applicants to management. Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Child and Youth Services (CYS) Employee Childcare Fee applicable to employees working at least 15 hours per week: First Child: 100% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees) Second and Subsequent Child: 25% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees) This position provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs. The incumbent plans and implements age and developmentally appropriate daily activities, planned experiences, interactions, and field trips. Follows health and safety standards when performing diapering, toileting, hand washing, cleaning/sanitizing/disinfecting surfaces and materials, food service, safe sleep practices, and caring for ill children and youth. Regularly operates a motor vehicle transporting fewer than 15 passengers on public roads at up to highway speeds. Ensures that passenger safety rules and regulations are followed. Completes trip tickets and other required reports. Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position. A qualified candidate must possess the following: All applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. The incumbent must communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing to communicate with CYS team and customers, prepare reports and plans, and document observations. In addition, candidate must have: Experience: Minimum of 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child/youth development AND Education: Completion of Skill Level DoW standardized training courses; OR Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School-Age (MSA) credential; OR 12 semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education; child and youth development, special education, Human Development, Youth Program Administration, Recreation (children and youth), Physical Education or directly related behavioral sciences (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology for the family. General psychology/sociology course work is not qualifying) To be found eligible for this position, proof of education must be submitted with the application along with a copy of a current valid driver's license. In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" and may be sent first for consideration: Highly preferred candidates will provide proof of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no restrictions to operate a 24 passenger vehicle and may be sent first for consideration. Proof of education is required at time of application. Failure to provide proof of education will result in an ineligible rating. To be found eligible, proof of education must be submitted with the application along with a copy of a current valid driver's license. Acceptable documents for proof of education are a high school diploma, a high school transcript (showing the graduation date), a GED certificate, a college transcript listing courses that were taken, or proof of a college degree.
