Chief Accountant – Istanbul, Türkiye

Codognotto is looking for an Intermodal Transport Planner to join our team in Istanbul and contribute to the development of our international intermodal transport network. We are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to join our team in Bahçeşehir, Istanbul and take responsibility for the accounting and statutory compliance activities of our Turkish operations. The ideal candidate has a solid accounting background, preferably gained within the logistics , transportation or freight forwarding sector, strong knowledge of Turkish accounting and tax regulations, and the ability to manage accounting processes accurately and independently. Key Responsibilities Oversee and manage the company's day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. Manage General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities in compliance with applicable legislation, accounting principles and internal procedures. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records and perform regular account reconciliations and controls. Prepare periodic financial statements, management reports and accounting reports for local management and Group functions. Manage and monitor cash flow, budgeting and forecasting activities, supporting the financial planning of the company. Prepare and submit statutory tax declarations, including VAT, Withholding Tax, Stamp Tax, Provisional Tax and Corporate Tax. Ensure compliance with Turkish accounting, tax and statutory requirements, keeping up to date with changes in legislation and accounting standards. Liaise with Tax Offices, Social Security Institutions (SGK/SSI) and other relevant public authorities. Coordinate relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and other financial professionals. Issue and control purchase and sales invoices and ensure the correct recording of all related accounting transactions. Perform customer and supplier account reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items. Support and monitor personnel administrative processes, including SSI/SGK registrations and terminations and the maintenance of employee files. Develop and maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls. Analyze financial and accounting data, identifying discrepancies, risks and improvement opportunities. Collaborate with the Group Finance team and other business functions to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or a related field. Certified Public Accountant (SMMM) qualification is strongly preferred. Proven experience as a Chief Accountant, Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Manager or in a similar senior accounting role. Previous experience in the logistics, transportation or freight forwarding industry is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of Turkish accounting principles, tax legislation and statutory reporting requirements. Solid understanding of General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, taxation and financial reporting processes. Good knowledge of the LOGO accounting system. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent organizational, problem-solving and time-management skills. Ability to work independently, take ownership of accounting processes and meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. English at B2 level or above; knowledge of Italian at B1 level or above will be considered an advantage.
