Supervisory Security Guard

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Incumbent manages a large guard workforce responsible for installation access control and additional security missions to protect property and personnel from criminal or hostile threats. Establishes performance standards and evaluates subordinate supervisors. Conducts meetings with subordinate supervisors and coordinates with union personnel to ensure the entire workforce conducts itself in harmony and with the objective of meeting the mission as its primary goal. Reviews standing operating procedures, special and general orders to ensure that they are current. Takes appropriate action to improve workflow, security, and services rendered. Develops and submits budget estimates essential to provide adequate support to conduct access control to the installation. Certifies time and attendance reports. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-10: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) plans and coordinates the activities of shifts for security guards, through subordinate supervisors. 2) Enforces personnel identification and control system. 3) Develops training courses based on regulatory requirements. 4) Maintains liaison with local, federal, state, county and city law enforcement authorities. 5) Performs managerial and administrative duties relating to the security guard force.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
