SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST as a Branch Head, of the Ocean Sensing Branch, Ocean Collections Division, Oceanographic Department, Naval Oceanographic Office in Stennis Space Center of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS. You will lead a scientific and technical workforce. You will interface and liaison with internal and external representatives outside of the branch. You will establish employee work schedules to ensure that branch processing applications are operationally sustainable. You will serve as the leader and decision maker when addressing potential system changes and/or implementation of new capabilities into operation. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience planning work to be accomplished by subordinates by setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion and assigning work to employees based upon priorities and the capabilities of the employees. Experience monitoring and directing personnel within the branch that operationally collect, process, and disseminate near real-time oceanographic data via a variety of satellite and in situ sources. Experience implementing oceanographic data acquisition, data processing, and data exchange of multiple near real-time oceanographic data types from a variety of satellite and in situ instrument sources. Experience utilizing computer software programs and scripts used to acquire, process, or manage oceanographic data. Experience communicating, connecting, and liaising, with external and internal representatives outside of the branch. Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess General Physical Science Series, 1301 Basic Requirements: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
