# Lead Mechanical Designer

XNRGY Climate Systems

Position Summary
XNRGY Climate Systems is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Designer to provide technical leadership for the mechanical design team supporting the development of air handling units, CRAHs, chillers, and related HVAC equipment. This role is responsible for assigning and coordinating the daily work of designers, establishing design standards, ensuring manufacturability, and driving high-quality engineering documentation.
The successful candidate will have strong expertise in 3D CAD design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack-up analysis, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), sheet metal design, manufacturing processes, and product development within an OEM environment. This individual will work closely with engineering, production, sourcing, quality, and suppliers to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and scalable for manufacturing.
Main Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate the daily activities and priorities of the mechanical design team.
• Assign work to designers and monitor progress to ensure project deadlines and quality expectations are met.
• Develop, review, and approve 3D models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, layouts, and manufacturing documentation.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, fit/function analysis, and drawing interpretation.
• Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with company standards, manufacturability requirements, and applicable industry codes.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, Sourcing, Quality, and Service teams throughout the product development cycle.
• Support production in resolving manufacturing and assembly issues and implement corrective design actions.
• Work with suppliers to evaluate components, fabrication methods, and manufacturing alternatives.
• Review and approve engineering change requests (ECRs), engineering change orders (ECOs), and product improvements.
• Participate in product development activities from concept through production release.
Qualifications
Required
• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of mechanical design experience in an OEM manufacturing environment.
• 3+ years of experience leading or coordinating a design team.
• Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software (Inventor preferred; SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or similar accepted).
• Strong expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance analysis.
• Extensive experience developing production-ready mechanical designs and manufacturing drawings.
• Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly manufacturing processes.
• Experience managing BOM structures, product configurations, and engineering changes.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multiple disciplines.
Preferred
• HVAC, data center cooling, air handling unit (AHU), CRAH, rooftop unit, or chiller industry experience.
• Experience with PDM/PLM systems.
• Experience supporting global or high-volume manufacturing operations.
• Familiarity with UL, CSA, ASME, and other applicable industry standards.
