Eastern District of Wisconsin (justice.gov) The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin (USAO) is seeking an exceptional attorney to join our team as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the Criminal Division. The USAO handles a wide variety of challenging and impactful criminal and civil cases and has responsibility for the region covering 28 countries in roughly the eastern one-third of the state. The USAO has its main office in Milwaukee and a branch office in Green Bay. This position will be located in the Green Bay office. AUSAs in the Criminal Division are responsible for the investigation and prosecution of federal offenses, including those involving violent crime, drug trafficking, financial fraud, identity theft, child exploitation, human trafficking, cybercrime, illegal reentry, civil rights, and public corruption. AUSAs handle these criminal cases during all phases of a prosecution, including grand jury investigations and presentations, pre-trial proceedings, trials, sentencing hearings, and post-conviction litigation. Our Green Bay office also handles a wide variety of criminal matters arising in Indian Country, including within the borders of the Menominee Indian Reservation. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See www.sss.gov. Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should have a demonstrated capacity to function, with minimal guidance, in an office environment as well as demonstrate analytical ability, good judgment, and excellent communication and litigation skills. Successful candidates should have a strong academic background, possess superior oral and written communication skills, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated the capacity to work effectively with a team as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously. Successful candidates should also possess the knowledge and ability to use computers and computer applications in performing day-to-day work tasks. Applicants must exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and highly professional manner with other attorneys, professional support staff, client agency representatives, law enforcement officers/investigators, opposing counsel, and court staff.
