The Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Accountant to support WHB Engineers' accounting operations, with a strong emphasis on project billing and accounts receivable. This role works closely with Project Managers and the accounting team to ensure client invoices are accurate, timely, and consistent with project and contract requirements. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, able to manage recurring deadlines, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced project-based environment. This is an onsite position. Responsibilities Own and manage the project billing cycle, including preparation, review, and timely issuance of client invoices. Work closely with Project Managers to obtain billing instructions, review draft invoices, secure approvals, and resolve billing questions or discrepancies. Review project contracts, amendments, and billing requirements to ensure invoices are prepared in accordance with client and project terms. Maintain accurate project and billing information in Deltek/Vantagepoint or other applicable accounting systems. Review project labor, expenses, subconsultant costs, and other billable charges for accuracy and proper project coding prior to invoicing. Monitor unbilled amounts, work in progress, accounts receivable, and aging; research and resolve discrepancies that may delay billing or collection. Maintain client billing records and supporting documentation and respond to client billing inquiries as needed. Apply and reconcile cash receipts to client invoices and accounts. Support collection efforts by providing invoice documentation, account detail, and follow-up information to Project Managers and clients as appropriate. Maintain and reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts, including accounts receivable and other assigned accounts. Prepare journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules as part of the monthly close process. Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and internal accounting reports. Support accounts payable, expense reimbursement, payroll accounting, and other full-cycle accounting functions as needed. Assist with annual audit, tax, and year-end accounting requirements by preparing schedules and supporting documentation. Prepare spreadsheets, financial analyses, and reports as requested. Identify opportunities to improve billing and accounting processes and collaborate with the accounting team and Project Managers on process improvements. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field strongly preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience; experience in an engineering, construction, architecture, professional services, or other project-based environment strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with project billing, accounts receivable, and the monthly accounting close cycle. Ability to interpret contracts and client billing requirements and translate them into accurate invoices. Strong understanding of accounting principles, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and financial statements. Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in financial data and billing documentation. Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and recurring deadlines. Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers and other non-accounting stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with Deltek/Vantagepoint ERP software strongly preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
