General Responsibilities of the Senior Well Planning Engineer Prepare the technical documentation required to meet all well design and planning requirements. Prepare, review, and approve the Well Schematic based on the Well Data Package received from the Geoscience Department, and technically monitor the execution of the relevant programs. Review operational procedures and provide comments and recommendations. Coordinate detailed well design activities, including casing design, kick tolerance calculations, casing/wellhead/safety valve/equipment pressure test programs, drill string design and hydraulics, drilling fluid design, and cementing design, based on well conditions and material strength information. Support the operational team in developing and revising documentation such as standards, procedures, and guidelines based on technical expertise. Provide technical support to verify all equipment, in terms of type, specifications, quality, and quantity, in accordance with the drilling program and to ensure that operational objectives are met. Ensure well control is maintained at every stage in accordance with the drilling program. Prior to each operation, verify the location and status of well barriers and ensure that they are properly in place. Work closely with the Geoscience team to ensure that well design objectives are achieved. Coordinate risk assessments for drilling activities. Prepare Well Programs and prepare and/or review End of Well Reports. Review and provide comments on Drillers’ Instructions (DI). Follow up on the well handover, drilling review, and After Action Review (AAR) processes. Participate in the selection and evaluation of service companies, suppliers, and equipment, and provide technical support for any full-scale re-tendering of relevant material and service contracts. Follow up on open AAR actions together with the Drilling Superintendent/DSI and support their closure. Ensure effective and accurate communication with relevant stakeholders, including the Operations Manager, Drilling Superintendent/DSI, Senior Well Completion Engineer, Senior Well Planning Engineer, third parties, and other relevant parties. Obtain estimated cost information from relevant departments for the drilling section of well construction, prepare the well drilling budget, and review well-specific Daily Cost Reports (DCRs). Ensure the technical integrity of Well Operations programs. Monitor new technologies and identify potential applications for projects. Take ownership of Best Practices, Lessons Learned, technical studies, and technical alerts, and participate in HSE-related investigations and alerts. Participate in audits and Periodic Service Quality meetings. Prepare Management of Change (MOC) documentation for well programs. Identify situations that may require deviations from industry standards and/or company principles and policies, and inform the Drilling Operations Manager when revisions to governing documents may be required. Conduct rig visits in cases directly related to the responsibilities of the position and requiring technical support, provided that such visits are planned in advance and the necessary approval is obtained. Analyze previous well performance, technical deviations, and actual cost performance to develop optimization recommendations for new wells and share these findings in internal technical sessions. Provide technical guidance to less experienced Well Planning Engineers, take an active role in on-the-job training, and promote knowledge transfer. Ensure that all well-related technical documentation, including well designs, programs, End of Well Reports, calculations, risk assessments, Management of Change documents, and other relevant records, is fully and properly documented in the company’s corporate data system in accordance with applicable standards. Perform other duties assigned by the Offshore Operations Director, Senior Well Planning Engineer, and Drilling Operations Manager within the scope of the position, taking into account the position’s job description, area of competence, and current workload.
