Serves as a Supervisory Medical Administration Officer with a facility title of Assistant Chief, Health Administration Services (HAS). Temporary Promotion Not To Exceed 120 days The duties of the Supervisory Medical Administration Officer (Deputy Chief) includes but is not limited to: Service Management 75% Performs duties involving supervision of staff administrative services, to include substantial line responsibility for establishing and implementing overall administrative policies and priorities in collaboration with the Chief. Work across multiple administrative service lines to assist the Chief in changing policies and priorities to ensure that patient care and medical record administration is executed in the most efficient manner possible. Maintains data related to budget and expenditure estimates. Advises appropriate staff on fund shortages, makes recommendations regarding funding or program adjustments, promotes cost consciousness, and identifies areas in which savings are possible. Administers programs concerning such matters as equal opportunity, merit promotion, labor-management relations, and position management. Assists with reassignment of personnel as required and has comprehensive knowledge of Medical Center operations to advise on personnel utilizations. Participates with other professional administrative services in serving as a member of numerous upper management committees. Assists the approving official on orders for supplies, services, and equipment for HAS. Supervisory Duties 25% Oversees the daily operation of the office/department, ensures that agency policies and priorities are being followed. Develops performance standards; and evaluates work performance of subordinates. Provides advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/05/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. GRADE DETERMINATION GS-12 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Physical Requirements: Work is generally sedentary with walking required.
