• Position: Sustainability Engineer / Sustainability Manager / Carbon Accountant / GHG Inventory Analyst – Independent Contractor.
• Commitment: Flexible, 2-5 hours/week (select opportunities as they arise).
• Duration: Project-based (typically 30 mins to 1.5 hours per task). Responsibilities
• GHG Inventory Preparation: Compile and quantify greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 categories using activity data, emission factors, and recognized methodologies.
• Carbon Footprint Calculation: Measure organizational and product-level carbon footprints, applying standards such as the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and ISO 14067.
• Data Collection & Management: Gather, validate, and organize emissions data from energy use, fuel consumption, travel, procurement, and supply chain activities.
• Emission Factor Selection: Source and apply appropriate emission factors from databases such as DEFRA, EPA, IPCC, and ecoinvent.
• Reporting & Disclosure: Support preparation of sustainability disclosures for frameworks like CDP, GRI, CSRD, and SBTi-aligned reporting.
• Reduction & Strategy Advisory: Identify emission hotspots and advise on decarbonization, offsetting, and net-zero pathways. Requirements / Qualifications The core of this role is the direct preparation of the documents and deliverables that carbon accountants routinely produce. Candidates should be able to:
• Produce GHG Inventory Reports: Author complete greenhouse gas inventory documents covering organizational boundaries, base years, Scope 1/2/3 breakdowns, and methodology notes.
• Build Emissions Calculation Workbooks: Create and document calculation models that convert raw activity data into CO2e using auditable emission factors and clear assumptions.
• Draft Carbon Footprint Assessments: Write corporate and product carbon footprint reports aligned with the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and ISO 14067.
• Prepare Disclosure Submissions: Generate the supporting documentation and responses required for CDP, CSRD, GRI, and SBTi reporting.
• Document Methodology & Assurance Trails: Produce methodology statements, data-quality notes, and evidence logs suitable for third-party verification and assurance.
• Experience: Demonstrated background in carbon accounting, GHG inventory analysis, or sustainability reporting, with hands-on familiarity with recognized carbon accounting standards and tools. Engagement Details
• Task-Based Compensation: Earn up to $2,000 USD per week, with typical tasks ranging from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.
• Independent Contractor: Work on a project-by-project basis.
• Flexibility: Asynchronous schedule—choose tasks that fit your availability.
