We are partnered with a vertically integrated real estate investment, management and development company with a primary concentration in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The company specializes in large-scale, institutional-quality development projects with high impact, while also owning and managing a portfolio of existing operating real estate assets. Our client is one of the largest private landowners of Opportunity Zones in the District of Columbia and is intently focused on sustainability, health, wellness, and connection to community and the outdoors. Our client is seeking a motivated Project Accountant to join their Accounting team. This position will support the Accounting Manager and collaborate across Asset Management, Development, and Investments departments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to grow within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial real estate environment. Responsibilities Maintain project-level general ledgers for a portfolio of development and operating assets, ensuring accuracy and completeness through each accounting period. Prepare quarterly close reporting, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid amortization, and balance sheet reconciliations. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and quarterly cash management procedures, including cash position reporting, tracking project-level cash inflows and outflows against funding schedules, and budget variance analysis. Support coordination of wire transfers and ACH payments, maintaining proper documentation and internal controls throughout the disbursement process. Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements for various internal and external stakeholders, including investors, lenders, and JV partners. Compile supporting schedules for audit and tax purposes, coordinating with external auditors and tax advisors during year-end engagements. Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis, research, and assist with special projects to support decision-making, operational improvements, and business initiatives. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. CPA and/or Master of Accounting or equivalent preferred. Minimum 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience required. Real Estate or Private Equity experience preferred but not required. Experience with Yardi or another ERP system preferred. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
