These nursing positions are located within the Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center (CC). As a Nurse you will serve as the primary nurse or coordinator of care for a specific population of patients; initiate appropriate referrals and coordinate routine care; and assess complex and sensitive health education needs in individual patient populations with like conditions, protocols and other characteristics. This announcement is for multiple vacancies within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Positions may be filled in one or more of the following specialty areas: Lead Nurse (Clinical Research/Team Lead) and Nurse (Educator) • Perioperative. The incumbent will perform duties associated with the specialty area for which selected, as described below: Lead Nurse (Clinical Research/Team Lead): Serves as a team leader responsible for coordinating, guiding, and supporting the work of Clinical Research Nurses and clinical research support staff. The position utilizes a variety of coordinating, coaching, facilitating, consensus-building, and planning techniques to support team operations and the delivery of clinical research nursing care. The incumbent applies advanced clinical knowledge, critical-thinking skills, and leadership expertise within the specialty area. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical-surgical acute care, behavioral health, oncology, and nursing leadership. Nurse (Educator) • Perioperative: Promotes evidence-based nursing practice and supports clinical competency across interdisciplinary teams. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the educational needs of the department. Serves as a subject matter expert, consultant, and resource for the Operating Room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Interventional Radiology, Sterile Processing Service, and other procedural areas. The ideal candidate will have extensive scrub and circulating operating room experience and extensive knowledge of Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards. AORN certification is preferred. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse, GS-0610-13, you must: A. Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. NOTE: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. . License: B. Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. AND C. You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: In addition, to qualify for a Lead Nurse (Clinical Research) position at the GS-13 level, you must have at least 1 year of professional Nurse experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Providing comprehensive nursing care, preventative, and therapeutic health care services to patients and family members within clinical research environments. Experience planning, designing, and/or developing clinical research protocols; implementing treatment and research plans; managing research data collection protocols; and evaluating trends in research study outcomes and protocol compliance.
