# Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Game Integrations

ABOUT THE COMPANY

THE ROLE
You'll join the Recorder team as a senior engineer and work on the core of Medal: the software that captures, encodes and records gameplay on our users' machines, including game integrations that power features like auto clipping https://support.medal.tv/support/solutions/articles/48001167701-what-is-automatic-event-detection-.
Engineers from other teams (Game Integrations, Front End and interns) regularly contribute to the recorder codebase, so a big part of this role is making that safe and easy. You'll design and architect solutions a team can maintain, set up guardrails and best practices, and help the codebase mature so anyone can make changes cleanly and with confidence.
This is hands-on work across the recorder stack: capture, hooks, encoding and game integrations. We want someone who likes working across the whole system and sharing what they know, not someone who owns one silo.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• 5+ years of C# experience in performance-critical contexts
• A strong software engineering background: you've designed and architected systems that a team of engineers can maintain and extend over time
• Experience building structure into existing codebases, such as clear interfaces, testing, code review standards and documentation, so other engineers can contribute safely
• A collaborative, team-first mindset: you share knowledge, pair with others and help the team avoid single points of failure
• Good understanding of the Windows OS
• Ownership and attention to detail: you see things through and take responsibility for the end-to-end quality of complex features
• Code performance: excellent understanding of how code performs in production, and confident with profiling tools
• Result-driven: everything we do is driven by the metrics and performance of the feature. We move fast and ship regularly
• Measuring with metrics: comfortable with A/B testing and measuring results with usage metrics
• Gaming: a passion for games and gaming communities, and a user of Discord and other gaming products
• In-person: we're hiring in NYC to work alongside the product team, 5 days a week in the office
• Strong bonus: C/C++ experience in performance-critical contexts (about half of the recorder is C++)
• Bonus: graphics API experience, especially DX11, DX12 and Vulkan
• Bonus: reverse engineering, hooking or injection experience, or game engine and modding experience
• Bonus: front-end experience, so you can work full stack when needed
