Health Scientist

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Laboratory Systems and Response, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Health Scientist, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Providing scientific leadership for public health research and program development by serving as a recognized expert, developing policies and objectives, advising on research design, and leading scientific initiatives that support national systems for monitoring public health capacity and performance. Designing, implementing, and evaluating complex public health studies and scientific projects by identifying health system problems, analyzing epidemiologic and statistical data, conducting major studies, and recommending evidence-based solutions to improve public health systems. Coordinating scientific collaborations and provide technical consultation by advising scientists and program staff, supporting study design and methodology, collaborating with federal, state, local, and private organizations, and providing technical assistance on public health capacity and performance measurement. Disseminating scientific findings and oversee program activities by preparing scientific publications and technical reports, presenting research findings to professional audiences, serving as a technical consultant on scientific contracts, and supervising staff responsible for public health research and program operations. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing at least ALL of the following: Leading the operations of a public health laboratory network by providing strategic direction, project oversight, and operational management to support organizational objectives; Overseeing laboratory quality management systems, including quality control, proficiency testing, assay validation or verification, corrective actions, and workforce training to ensure reliable laboratory operations; Coordinating collaboration with laboratories and external stakeholders to support program implementation, operational priorities, and public health initiatives; Advising senior leadership on laboratory operations, strategic planning, resource requirements, and emergency preparedness activities supporting public health response.
