# Lead Software Engineer (People Tech) - Up to $200k USD + Discretionary Bonus - Chicago (Hybrid)

Role: Team Lead Software Engineer (People Technology) Location: Chicago (Hybrid) Salary: Up to $200k USD + Industry Leading Bonus! We're currently working with a high-performance trading firm in Chicago that's looking to hire a Lead / Senior (Python/React) Software Engineer to build and shape a new people technology function from the ground up! This is a genuinely unique opportunity for an experienced full-stack engineer who enjoys being close to the code but also wants to have a much broader impact. You'll become the technical owner of a suite of business-critical people tech oriented internal applications, working directly with senior stakeholders to understand problems, shape solutions and build technology that makes a tangible difference across the organisation. You'll be joining a sophisticated engineering environment where technology is central to the firm's success — but you'll have the autonomy and freedom to define how this new function operates. The best candidate will have: Strong full-stack engineering experience. Must have Python, TypeScript/React and PostgreSQL! Experience owning applications end-to-end , from understanding requirements and setting a roadmap through to delivery, production support and continuous improvement A track record of working directly with non-technical stakeholders , turning complex business requirements into elegant technical solutions Experience working across modern web technologies such as FastAPI, Flask, Next.js or Ruby/Sinatra The ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and ownership — you're comfortable creating structure where there isn't much to begin with What Makes This Role Different: Build something from scratch — you'll be one of the first engineers in a newly established technology function, with the opportunity to define its direction, processes and culture Stay hands-on — this isn't a traditional management role. You'll continue writing production code while providing technical leadership Own the roadmap — you'll have significant influence over which problems get solved, how they're approached and where the technology evolves Shape the team — you'll help define the future engineering structure and play an important role in growing the team around you Have genuine visibility and impact — your work will support critical processes across the employee and talent lifecycle within a global trading organisation If you're an experienced engineer who wants more than another feature-delivery role — and the idea of owning a technology function, building products from scratch and shaping a team around you sounds exciting, you can send your CV to agreen@hunterbond.com
