If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for enforcing Federal criminal and civil laws that protect life, liberty and the property of citizens. You will be responsible for performing docketing and legal report development using computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems. Typical work assignments will include: Inputs information into databases and systems and updates records. Develops and maintains automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure. Extracts requested program and/or statistical data when requested. Performs routine factual research to correct and update case records. Reviews recurring reports to respond to inquiries. Produces a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office automations applications. Produces tables, graphs, and charts which may be incorporated into legal documents or courtroom presentations. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
To be qualified at the GS-05 level, you must have: at least one (1) full year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in Federal service; OR four (4) years of Education above the high school level; OR a Combination of both Specialized Experience and Education as explained below. Specialized Experience Specialized experience is defined as performing various clerical/administrative duties in support of the operation of an office; for example, reviewing documents with basic legal implications for accuracy and completeness, receiving and routing incoming mail, responding to inquiries; typing and formatting correspondence and forms; maintaining filing systems; and performing data entry within an electronic automated database system. Combination of Education and Specialized Experience Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one (1) year of specialized experience requirement equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Only education more than the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
