Natural Resource Management Specialist

About the Position: Serves as a staff Environmental Specialist for the Long Branch and Rathbun Project Office which are responsible for operations and maintenance. The combined Project has two hundred miles of shoreline with over forty thousand acres of land and water and receives heavy public use. Conduct Environmental Review Guide For Operations (ERGO) training for lake staff members regarding environmental regulations and application to lake project operations Review project development plans, management activities, and lease programs to assure compliance with environmental regulations Perform on-going environmental assessments and or studies of lake projects utilizing the initial Environmental Review Guide for Operations Develop environmental baseline survey methods, procedures and techniques to detect and monitor lead base paint/asbestos contamination, and make recommendations to the Project Manager for maintenance, disposal, and/or develop site recovery plans Conduct environmental compliance and utilization studies, encroachment inspections, and boundary line maintenance inspections Who May Apply: Only applicants who meet one of the employment authority categories below are eligible to apply for this job. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Natural Resource Management Specialist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience GS • 11: One year of specialized experience which includes includes 1) Assist in environmental assessments by collecting field data to ensure project compliance with established environmental laws and regulations, 2) gather information on natural resources management issues, such as wildlife habitat and land use, to support the development of operational and master plans, and 3) support environmental compliance activities by inspecting project facilities and monitoring contractor operations under the guidance of a higher-graded specialist. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
