PROMOTIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT: TRIO Upward Bound Advisor, the Access Center

Job Description This is a promotional announcement and is not a vacant position. Essential Job Duties: Advising and Academic Support: Maintain a specified caseload of students and provide advising, workshops, and educational enrichment workshops and events for students Community Relations: Develop and maintain relationships between the program and community, families, school personnel and target school administrators Record-keeping and Reports : Maintain records of program activities and student eligibility and performance Recruitment : Recruit and identify eligible participants to enroll and participate in the UB program Instruction : Plan and implement interactive and effective classes and/or workshops during the academic year and during summer programs; facilitate and implement after-school, weekend and other instructional/tutoring sessions; and facilitate student access to academic resources in the target schools and community College Visitation Trips : Assist with planning and supervising of several annual in-state and out-of-state, overnight multi-day trips to visit colleges/universities and expose students to regional/national cultural, educational, and career opportunities Teamwork : Contribute to and actively support efforts of the CSU Upward Bound and the Access Center staff teams through meetings, retreats, program planning, collaboration on activities, and participation in the Access Center committees and across campus (as deemed appropriate) Training and Development : Participate in and contribute to professional development activities of the staff team, including appropriate conference and training opportunities Supervision: Supervises Residential Summer Coordinator, 4-6 summer student staff positions, summer interns and graduate practicum students as needed. Conditions of Employment (Administrative Professional): Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires): Yes Valid Driver’s License: Yes Travel: Yes – statewide recruitment travel and programing travel; Minimum Required Degree: As written in approved federal grant: Bachelor’s degree in education, liberal arts, behavioral / social sciences, social work, counseling, higher education administration, or related field from an accredited institution At least one year of experience advising, supervising, and/or mentoringdisadvantaged youth in an educational setting (“Disadvantaged,” according to theU.S. Department of Education, signifies an individual who meets low-incomeguidelines and who is a potential first-generation college student. A “first-generation” individual is a person whose parents have not earned abaccalaureate degree) Preferred Experience and/or Skills: Ability to facilitate student learning and academic skills development Strong communication skills (speaking, writing, developing and presenting academic workshops, and/or presentations, use of computer applications) Community relations experience (evidence of building collaborative community networks and programs, including work with school administrators and staff, community agencies) Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) desirable Demonstrated knowledge of, and relevant ability to work with students from communities of first-generation and limited/ low-income communites Must have a valid driver’s license and/or reliable personal transportation, and commitment to travel extensively in the target area, including travel to target schools.
