Staff Accountant Jacobsen & Company, LLP is a growing CPA firm in Des Moines serving businesses, nonprofit organizations, associations, and individuals. For more than 20 years, we have helped clients with tax compliance and planning, financial reporting, outsourced accounting, and other advisory needs. We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team. This position offers broad exposure to both tax and accounting work, direct experience with clients, and opportunities to take on increasing responsibility as you develop professionally. Responsibilities Prepare individual, business, nonprofit, and other tax returns Prepare financial statements and accounting workpapers Perform bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations Prepare and post journal entries Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and outsourced accounting services Review financial information for accuracy and investigate discrepancies Communicate with clients to obtain information and resolve routine questions Maintain organized electronic workpapers and client documentation Work with senior accountants and managers on increasingly complex tax and accounting engagements Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field 3.0 GPA or higher preferred CPA eligibility or an interest in pursuing the CPA designation preferred Ability to work on-site at our Des Moines office Strong attention to detail and analytical skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to handle confidential client information appropriately Proficiency with Microsoft Office Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and take on increasing responsibility Recent graduates and candidates with 1–3 years of accounting experience are encouraged to apply. Compensation and Benefits Competitive base salary based on experience and qualifications Comp time for hours worked over 40: each additional hour worked is added to your available paid time off Staff typically earn approximately 3–5 additional weeks of comp time during tax season , which may be taken as time off or paid as additional compensation 10% base salary increase upon passing the CPA exam 20% commission on collections from clients you bring to the firm 401(k) with 5% employer matching contribution Health, dental, and vision insurance 3 weeks of PTO , in addition to standard paid holidays Professional development and opportunities for advancement
