As we expand our corporate interiors practice, we are looking for people who want to help shape a growing group inside an established firm. The Role Sciame Construction is hiring an Estimator for our Manhattan office, focused on corporate interiors. You will produce takeoffs, pricing and trade packages on interior fit-out and renovation projects across New York City, working alongside our estimating and purchasing team. Our interiors work spans corporate office fit-outs, tenant improvements, and lobby and public space renovations in occupied and Class A buildings throughout the five boroughs and the surrounding metro area. This is a hands-on estimating seat with real ownership of your trades. Sciame's Estimating and Purchasing Department works closely with the project management team from the earliest stages and stays engaged through the life of the project — we don't hand the job off at buyout. That continuity is deliberate. It keeps accountability with the person who priced the work, cuts down on design and budget issues surfacing late, and lets us maintain the speed and agility of a smaller company while building some of the most visible projects in the city. For an estimator, it means you see what your numbers were actually worth, and you carry that forward into the next bid. It also means this seat comes with room to grow. Our corporate interiors group is expanding now, and the person in this role will have a direct hand in shaping how it estimates, who it bids with, and where it takes its work. Responsibilities Estimating and takeoff Analyze drawings, specifications and project documents and prepare quantity takeoffs for your assigned trades Apply unit pricing for material, labor and equipment to establish a value for the work When required for a project, develop conceptual, SD, DD and CD budgets as design progresses, inclusive of architectural, structural and MEP/FP trades Reconcile each estimate against the previous issue and be able to explain the movement Draft the qualifications, assumptions and exclusions that define the basis of your numbers Subcontractor management and buyout Run subcontractor solicitation — issue bid packages, chase returns and drive coverage on your trades Prepare bid leveling and scope comparison sheets; flag gaps and overlaps between trade packages before they become change orders Complete subcontractor bid review and descope, confirming conformance to specifications, code, material quality, schedule, site logistics and insurance Draft trade scopes of work and support buyout through to subcontract award With the operations team, assist in reviewing subcontractor change order claims against the scope awarded and the drawings — establish whether it is genuinely a change or something already bought, and test rates for reasonableness before anything is passed on Through construction and close-out Track allowance expenditure against what was carried and reconcile unused allowance back to the client Manage project kickoff and closeout meetings to hand off information cleanly between estimating, accounting and operations Team and process Understand the full scope of the project through document review and by asking the right questions of the design team and owner Contribute value engineering options and flag risk and long-lead exposure to the project team Attend client meetings, resolve pricing and estimate questions, and secure client approval and signoff Communicate clearly with estimators, project managers, subcontractors and the design team Contribute to the growth of the corporate interiors group as it builds out Qualifications 3+ years of estimating, purchasing or preconstruction experience with a general contractor, construction manager or specialty subcontractor New York City construction experience, ideally on corporate interiors or tenant fit-out work Confident quantity takeoff ability across multiple trades Strong takeoff and estimating software skills, e.g.: On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Excel, Procore, Destini Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or a related field — or equivalent industry experience Clear written and verbal communication, and the organization to keep a bid package on track Not required but an advantage to have Familiarity with both union and open-shop labor markets in New York Exposure to open-book pricing and conversion to a stipulated sum Field or trade background Compensation Salary range: $100,000 - $165,000 per year, plus an annual discretionary bonus based on both company and individual performance. Actual compensation within the range is determined by experience and qualifications.
