Low Voltage Technician
Empire Security
LOW-VOLTAGE / SECURITY SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN Empire Security LLC – East Texas Empire Security LLC is looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined technician to join our growing team. We install and service commercial security, surveillance, access control, networking, structured cabling, gate systems, and other low-voltage technology. Experience in the security industry is NOT required for the right person. We are willing to train. However, this is a hands-on technical position. Applicants must already be comfortable using basic hand and power tools. If you have little or no experience using drills, impact drivers, hand tools, tape measures, or ladders, this position is not a good fit. What You'll Be Doing Work may include:
• Installing and servicing security/alarm systems
• Installing IP surveillance cameras and recording equipment
• Pulling, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting low-voltage cabling
• Installing network equipment, switches, wireless access points, and related equipment
• Installing and servicing access-control systems
• Working with relays, power supplies, door contacts, motion detectors, and other low-voltage devices
• Installing equipment on walls, ceilings, poles, buildings, and other structures
• Working from ladders and occasionally lifts
• Drilling, mounting, measuring, cutting, terminating, and assembling equipment
• Troubleshooting electrical, network, wiring, and equipment problems
• Working in commercial facilities and professional customer environments
• Learning new equipment and technologies as our company continues to grow Minimum Requirements Applicants must:
• Have practical experience using hand and power tools
• Be comfortable using a drill and impact driver
• Be able to accurately read a tape measure
• Be comfortable working from ladders
• Have basic mechanical aptitude
• Be able to follow written and verbal instructions
• Be willing and able to learn technical systems
• Have good problem-solving skills
• Be dependable and show up when scheduled
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude around customers
• Respect customer property and maintain a clean work area
• Have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Be able to pass a drug screening
• Be able to pass a background check
• Pass a basic pre-employment hands-on aptitude assessment Applicants without basic tool experience, including experience using drills and common hand tools, will not qualify for this position. Experience That Is a Major Plus Any of the following experience is valuable but is not required for an entry-level applicant:
• Electrical
• Low-voltage
• Security/alarm systems
• Surveillance cameras
• Access control
• Networking or IT
• Structured cabling
• Telecommunications
• Gate operators
• Construction
• Commercial service work Electrical experience is a major plus. Someone who understands basic electrical circuits, voltage, relays, meters, wiring, or troubleshooting will have an excellent foundation for the work we perform. Pre-Employment Skills Assessment Applicants who move forward in the hiring process will complete a short hands-on assessment. This is not designed to determine whether you already know our specific equipment. It is designed to determine your basic mechanical ability, tool proficiency, measurement skills, safety awareness, problem-solving ability, and overall aptitude for learning this trade. Experienced applicants may be given additional electrical, networking, relay, and troubleshooting exercises so we can accurately evaluate their current skill level. 90-Day Introductory Period All new technicians will begin with a 90-day introductory period. During this period, we will evaluate:
• Reliability and attendance
• Safety
• Tool proficiency
• Quality of workmanship
• Ability to learn
• Productivity
• Troubleshooting ability
• Attention to detail
• Professionalism with customers
• Ability to follow instructions
• Ability to work independently
• Amount of supervision required Starting compensation will be based on demonstrated experience and the pre-employment assessment. Advancement and compensation increases are based on demonstrated ability and performance—not simply time on the job. Someone who starts with limited industry experience but learns quickly, produces quality work, and demonstrates the ability to take on greater responsibility will have opportunities to advance. Likewise, applicants with substantial existing experience will have an opportunity to demonstrate those skills during the hiring process. Who We're Looking For You do not need to know everything about security systems when you walk through the door. We are looking for someone who can work with their hands, think through problems, learn, take instruction, and take pride in doing things correctly. We can teach someone how our alarm systems, cameras, access control systems, and networks work. We need the person coming in to already understand that tools, safety, workmanship, reliability, and attention to detail matter. If you're mechanically inclined, enjoy figuring out how things work, aren't afraid of tools or ladders, and want to develop a valuable technical skill set, we'd like to hear from you.
