Housekeeping Manager Position Purpose The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for leading the hotel’s Housekeeping operations and ensuring guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and laundry operations consistently meet company and applicable brand standards for cleanliness, presentation, safety, and guest satisfaction. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for supervising and developing the Housekeeping team, inspecting guestrooms and public areas, managing schedules and productivity, maintaining appropriate inventory levels, and working closely with other hotel departments to ensure rooms are clean, ready, and available for guests. The ideal candidate is an organized and dependable leader with strong attention to detail, a commitment to cleanliness, and the ability to motivate a team in a fast-paced hotel environment. Ensure guestrooms and hotel areas consistently meet established company, brand, cleanliness, and presentation standards. Inspect guestrooms and public areas regularly and provide immediate coaching or corrective direction when standards are not met. Coordinate daily room assignments and priorities based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, stayovers, special requests, and business needs. Monitor room status throughout the day and work closely with the Front Office to ensure clean rooms are available for arriving guests. Monitor Housekeeping productivity, staffing levels, and labor expenses in relation to occupancy and business needs. Prepare department schedules in accordance with occupancy forecasts, staffing needs, productivity expectations, and budget guidelines. Review employee time records for accuracy and ensure payroll information is submitted according to established procedures. Maintain appropriate inventory and par levels for linens, terry, guest supplies, amenities, uniforms, cleaning products, and other departmental supplies. Conduct and document inventories as required. Order departmental supplies in accordance with company purchasing and expense-control procedures. Monitor the proper use, storage, and security of Housekeeping supplies, equipment, chemicals, linens, and guest amenities. Maintain and enforce appropriate key control procedures. Ensure proper procedures are followed for guest privacy, security, and entry into guestrooms. Oversee Lost and Found procedures and ensure items are properly documented, secured, and handled according to company policy. Monitor guest requests and Housekeeping-related concerns to ensure timely completion and follow-up. Respond professionally to guest concerns and work to resolve cleanliness or service issues promptly. Identify maintenance concerns during room and property inspections and communicate work orders to the appropriate department. Follow up on maintenance requests that affect room availability, cleanliness, safety, or the guest experience. Coordinate deep cleaning, preventive cleaning, and special Housekeeping projects. Conduct regular property walks to identify cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and presentation concerns. Maintain accurate departmental records, reports, inventories, and other required documentation. Use hotel systems to monitor and update room status, guest requests, and departmental information as applicable. Support departmental budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, and expense management. Assist in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction. Leadership Responsibilities Lead, train, coach, and develop Housekeeping team members. Participate in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and training Housekeeping associates. Provide clear daily assignments, expectations, and priorities to the team. Conduct daily team meetings or shift briefings as appropriate. Ensure new and existing associates are properly trained on cleaning procedures, equipment, chemicals, safety practices, guest service, and company and brand standards. Monitor employee performance and provide timely coaching, recognition, feedback, and corrective action as appropriate. Participate in performance evaluations in accordance with company procedures. Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and a positive work environment. Ensure Housekeeping associates provide friendly, courteous, and professional service to guests and fellow team members. Ensure departmental policies, procedures, and safety requirements are consistently followed. Communicate effectively with hotel leadership and other departments regarding staffing, room readiness, guest needs, maintenance issues, and operational priorities. Safety & Compliance Maintain a safe working environment and ensure Housekeeping associates follow established safety procedures. Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly labeled, stored, handled, and used according to manufacturer instructions and safety requirements. Ensure current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are maintained and accessible as required. Train team members on proper chemical use, equipment operation, personal protective equipment, and safe work practices. Promptly report and address workplace hazards, accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions. Ensure Housekeeping equipment is maintained in safe working condition and report repair or replacement needs. Follow applicable company policies, brand standards, health and safety requirements, and regulatory requirements. Supportive Functions In addition to performing the essential functions, this position may be required to perform other duties based on the operational needs of the hotel. Assist with room cleaning, laundry, public area cleaning, or other Housekeeping functions when operationally necessary. Participate in Manager on Duty responsibilities when assigned. Assist with VIP rooms, special requests, group arrivals, and other priority guest needs. Participate in hotel meetings, inspections, training, and property walks. Assist with departmental projects and property improvement initiatives. Work collaboratively with Engineering, Front Office, and other departments to support overall hotel operations. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Previous hotel Housekeeping experience required. Previous supervisory or Housekeeping leadership experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of hotel cleaning procedures, room standards, sanitation practices, and Housekeeping operations. Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to effectively schedule and prioritize work based on occupancy and operational needs. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to understand and manage departmental labor, productivity, inventory, and expenses. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with guests, team members, leadership, and vendors. Basic computer skills and ability to learn hotel, scheduling, purchasing, and other business systems. Ability to maintain composure and make sound decisions during high-volume or challenging situations. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with other hotel departments. Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as applicable. Physical Requirements The physical requirements described below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to inspect guestrooms, bathrooms, public areas, laundry areas, and other hotel spaces throughout the workday. Ability to safely use and handle Housekeeping equipment, cleaning products, linens, and supplies. Ability to push or pull Housekeeping carts and equipment as needed. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull supplies, linens, equipment, and other materials as required for the position. Hospitality Expectations Our hotels operate seven (7) days a week, twenty-four (24) hours a day. All associates are expected to support a professional, welcoming, and service-focused environment at all times. Scheduling and responsibilities may vary based on business and operational needs. As a hotel department leader, the Housekeeping Manager may be required to adjust their schedule based on occupancy, staffing, operational needs, or unexpected situations.
