Site Manager

Apex seeks a Site Manager to join us and work with our team of onsite construction managers to help lead the construction of utility-scale wind energy, solar energy, and/or battery storage projects to support our portfolio across the United States. As a Site Manager at Apex, you will be located on-site at a project throughout its construction lifecycle (typically 12-18 months). These projects are located in various parts of the United States. Reporting to and supporting the Field Operations Manager, this role will help to manage relationships with various stakeholders and interface with other groups of the Engineering & Construction Department. Our Site Managers occupy a multi-faceted role and provide technical support for projects entering into and under construction for utility-scale renewable energy projects. The position requires cross-functional skills as you’ll be performing a variety of field level tasks, supporting various site team disciplines, and collaborating with site team and home office team members. You will collaborate with third-party engineering firms and effectively put together solutions to project issues, interfacing with renewable energy equipment OEMs, and providing technical support, as needed. You’ll be assigned to a specific project, so travel is a must. You will be expected to support and coordinate with local officials and the community, site project facilities and ensure that quality standards are met during field evaluations and construction. Primary Responsibilities Site Leadership & Field Execution – Lead day-to-day site activities throughout construction, ensuring work is executed safely, in accordance with approved plans and specifications, and in alignment with project schedule, quality, and commercial objectives. Ownership Representation – Serve as the primary on-site representative of Apex's interests as project owner, upholding Apex's core values and ensuring the long-term quality and reliability of the asset are prioritized in all field decisions. Field Oversight & Inspection Management – Oversee and coordinate field inspection activities across civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes. Ensure inspections are performed, properly documented, and followed through to resolution. Typically oversee a multidisciplinary inspection team of approximately four inspectors per project. QA/QC & Reporting – Ensure required QA/QC documentation, inspection records, deficiencies, punch lists, and corrective actions are maintained and resolved. Establish and maintain an appropriate reporting cadence with the Field Operations Manager and project team, escalating significant quality, schedule, safety, or execution issues promptly. Contractor & OEM Management – Maintain strong, proactive working relationships with the primary construction contractor, equipment OEMs, engineering firms, and other key project stakeholders. Communicate expectations clearly, resolve field issues efficiently, and ensure construction activities support both safe execution and the long-term reliability of the completed asset. Safety Leadership & Incident Review – Promote a strong site safety culture and hold contractors and site personnel accountable for safe work practices. Participate in the review and documentation of safety incidents, near misses, and corrective actions, and ensure lessons learned are communicated and implemented. Environmental & Permit Compliance – Support compliance with project environmental permits and requirements, including wildlife protection measures, dust suppression, stormwater controls, and landowner agreements Project Management & Coordination – Coordinate multiple project priorities across construction, engineering, quality, safety, and commercial functions. Track commitments, identify emerging issues, drive resolution, and communicate project status and risks to internal leadership. Schedule & Cost Awareness – Monitor field progress against project schedules and support efforts to maintain project milestones and budget objectives. Identify potential schedule, productivity, or cost impacts and work with the project team to develop and implement corrective actions. Technical & Field Problem Solving – Provide hands-on technical support and field-level problem solving across civil, mechanical, electrical, and renewable energy scopes. Coordinate with engineering and OEM resources as necessary to develop practical and technically sound solutions. Stakeholder Coordination – Serve as a key onsite representative for Apex, coordinating with contractors, OEMs, third-party inspectors, engineers, local officials, and other stakeholders. Maintain clear and timely communication regarding project status, issues, decisions, and required actions. Project Documentation & Closeout – Ensure field documentation, inspection records, deficiency tracking, punch lists, and other required project records are complete and maintained throughout construction and through project turnover. To succeed as a Site Manager at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria: Minimum 10 years of utility-scale wind or solar construction experience. Thorough understanding of utility-scale renewable energy construction and field execution. Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating multidisciplinary field teams, including civil, mechanical, and electrical inspectors. Demonstrated experience overseeing QA/QC activities, field inspections, documentation, deficiency resolution, and project closeout. Demonstrated experience working directly with primary construction contractors, equipment OEMs, engineering firms, and other project stakeholders. Excellent project management skills , including the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage project issues, drive accountability, and communicate effectively across multiple disciplines. Experience with project controls within industrial engineering, procurement, and construction environments. Strong understanding of construction safety practices and experience participating in safety incident and near-miss reviews. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with field personnel, contractors, vendors, engineers, and senior management. High standard of integrity, accountability, and reliability. OSHA 30 certification is strongly preferred. Procore experience preferred Able to read, write, understand, and speak English proficiently. Willingness to work at a project site, with R&R trips home approximately every month. Ability to regularly walk fields and uneven terrain and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work Environment: This is a field-based position located primarily at active utility-scale renewable energy sites, with regular exposure to outdoor conditions. The typical workweek is 6–7 days with workdays of approximately 10–12 hours, depending on project requirements.
