Job Description: The Director, Industrial Base Transformation is a consulting leader, capability builder, and trusted adviser who will help establish and grow ASI Government's Industrial Base capability. The Director will initially support a high-priority Department of War effort focused on the unmanned systems industrial base, working alongside senior ASI leaders, government stakeholders, industry and technical experts, and a leading strategy consulting partner. The work spans industrial base risk identification, supply-chain and manufacturing capacity, alternative supplier identification, production acceleration, and implementation of interventions designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing and accelerate delivery of critical capabilities. This is not a traditional subject-matter-expert role. We are looking for an experienced consultant and builder who combines exceptional structured problem solving, executive communication, and delivery discipline with meaningful knowledge of the defense industrial base, manufacturing, supply chains, aerospace and defense, or unmanned systems. The Director will help ASI deliver immediate value to the client while simultaneously building the people, expert network, methodologies, partnerships, and intellectual capital necessary for ASI to independently lead future industrial base engagements. The role begins as a hands-on individual contributor or lean-team leader. The successful candidate must be comfortable personally structuring analyses, building and editing PowerPoint and Excel deliverables, running client and expert working sessions, synthesizing complex technical inputs, and resolving day-to-day delivery issues without relying on a large support team. The ideal candidate is intrepid and entrepreneurial: comfortable entering an emerging problem space, rapidly developing expertise, mobilizing external experts, creating structure where little exists, and turning insights into practical action. Key Responsibilities: Client leadership and trusted advisory Serve as a senior day-to-day interface with client stakeholders; anticipate needs, read stakeholder dynamics, and build credibility through sound judgment, responsiveness, and follow-through. Frame ambiguous industrial-base problems, develop clear points of view, and provide strategic ideas and practical recommendations that reflect mission priorities, operating context, technical realities, and implementation constraints. Design and lead executive meetings, working sessions, expert panels, decision forums, and difficult conversations with concise messaging and confident facilitation. Operate independently in sensitive client situations, escalating selectively and bringing proposed solutions rather than unresolved problems. Industrial Base engagement delivery Embed in the current DoW unmanned-systems Industrial Base effort and identify discrete work lanes where ASI can contribute differentiated, visible value without duplicating partner-led analysis. Structure and synthesize analyses spanning supplier landscapes, component and subcomponent risks, production capacity, demand signals, bottlenecks, alternative suppliers, investment options, and production-acceleration strategies. Translate industrial-base analysis into executable courses of action, including supplier onboarding, manufacturing expansion, investment and de-risking options, intervention tracking, and implementation roadmaps. Integrate qualitative expert judgment with quantitative and data-driven analyses to produce decision-oriented recommendations for senior government leaders. Industrial Base Expert Network Design, build, and activate a curated ASI Industrial Base Expert Network across unmanned systems, aerospace and defense manufacturing, supply chains, critical components and materials, investment, acquisition, and related technical disciplines. Determine the expertise required to answer priority client questions; identify, recruit, vet, and engage credible experts; and maintain a reusable network that can support current and future engagements. Structure expert panels, interviews, and working sessions; develop targeted questions and hypotheses; assess the quality and relevance of expert input; and synthesize insights into actionable client recommendations. Build repeatable processes for deploying outside expertise rapidly while maintaining quality, conflict, security, and client-compliance standards. Capability building and intellectual capital Codify the methods, data, tools, analytical approaches, expert inputs, decision points, and outputs required to conduct industrial-base assessments and acceleration efforts from end to end. Capture lessons from the current engagement and translate them into an ASI Industrial Base Assessment and Acceleration playbook, including frameworks, templates, interview guides, risk taxonomies, supplier-assessment methods, capacity-assessment approaches, mitigation frameworks, and example deliverables. Assess ASI's ability to independently execute future Industrial Base work; identify gaps in talent, technical expertise, data, analytics, tools, partnerships, and delivery methods; and develop a practical roadmap to close those gaps. Develop reusable offerings and intellectual capital that differentiate ASI in the market, with a focus on combining consulting rigor, expert networks, implementation capability, and scalable analytics/tooling. Consulting delivery and quality Own assigned work from problem definition through implementation, including scope, hypotheses, workplan, milestones, dependencies, decisions, and outcomes. Translate analysis into a clear story line and personally develop, review, and refine polished PowerPoint presentations, Excel analyses, written products, and executive briefings. Set a high quality bar for accuracy, logic, visual presentation, attention to detail, and readiness for senior-client review; ensure deliverables require minimal executive rework. Maintain rigorous program management, including action and decision tracking, risk management, meeting cadence, staffing, and timely resolution of issues. Coach contributors through precise direction, rapid feedback, and quality review while remaining accountable for the integrated product. Partner and work-lane leadership Define and negotiate clear work-lane scope, roles, interfaces, and decision rights with consulting partners, subcontractors, technical experts, and other members of the integrated team. Represent ASI confidently in integrated-team discussions; protect delivery quality, ASI visibility, and capability-building objectives while remaining collaborative and focused on the client outcome. Identify where ASI can contribute distinctive value based on its acquisition, organizational transformation, implementation, government-domain, and expert-network strengths. Manage handoffs and interdependencies so the client experiences one coherent team without losing visibility into ASI contributions. Capability growth and market development Partner with ASI leadership to define the Industrial Base capability strategy, initial offerings, talent model, partner ecosystem, investment priorities, and go-to-market approach. Continuously identify unmet needs, adjacent mission priorities, and follow-on opportunities through delivery, client listening, industry engagement, and a strong understanding of the account. Shape specific opportunities by clarifying the client problem, desired outcome, approach, stakeholders, acquisition path, competitive position, and next action. Build direct, durable ASI relationships across government and industry and expand the firm's network beyond the immediate engagement and partner-led channels. Partner with growth and capture leaders on on-contract growth, proposals, recompetes, and account planning, including opportunities where ASI can prime and independently deliver Industrial Base work. Minimum Requirements 10+ years of professional experience, including substantial experience in management consulting, strategy consulting, transformation consulting, industrial-base strategy, supply-chain or manufacturing strategy, aerospace and defense, or a comparable client-services environment. 5+ years leading consulting engagements, major workstreams, or complex cross-functional initiatives with direct accountability for senior stakeholders, integrated delivery, and executive-level outputs. Demonstrated record of independently navigating complex and ambiguous client environments and becoming a trusted adviser to senior leaders. Exceptional structured problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to break down unfamiliar, technically complex problems and translate analysis into actionable recommendations. Strong understanding of at least one relevant domain, such as the U.S. defense industrial base, supply-chain resilience, manufacturing and production, aerospace and defense, acquisition, or emerging defense technologies. Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills, including the ability to personally structure analyses, build executive-ready story lines, and improve others’ work to a high consulting standard. Exceptional verbal communication and executive presence; able to communicate a crisp point of view, facilitate decisions, engage credibly with technical experts, and adapt in the room. Demonstrated entrepreneurial orientation and experience building a new capability, offering, program, team, business, or operating model rather than only operating within established structures. Experience working across organizational boundaries and negotiating roles and work scope with partners, subcontractors, peer consulting firms, government stakeholders, or external experts. Bachelor’s degree. Ability to obtain and maintain the clearance and client-site access required for assigned engagements. Preferred Qualifications Hands-on experience using JUPITER, BLADE, Palantir Foundry, or comparable government data and analytics platforms to integrate, analyze, and visualize industrial base, supply chain, acquisition, or operational data. Experience with the U.S. defense industrial base or aerospace and defense manufacturing. Experience with UAS/UxS, autonomous systems, munitions, or related emerging defense technologies. Familiarity with bills of material (BOMs), supplier mapping, sub-tier supply-chain analysis, production-capacity assessment, demand aggregation, bottleneck identification, or industrial-base risk analysis. Experience working directly with manufacturers or suppliers to address production, capacity, sourcing, qualification, investment, or scaling challenges. Prior top-tier management consulting experience, or equivalent evidence of consulting-level problem solving, analytics, executive communication, and client leadership. Existing network across defense manufacturers, nontraditional defense companies, component suppliers, investors, technical experts, or industrial-base stakeholders. Experience translating strategy or risk analysis into implementation, supplier interventions, investment plans, or measurable production outcomes.
