EDUCATIONAL TECHNICIAN (CHILD DEVELOPMENT)

The primary purpose of this position is to: To assist with the oversight and coordinate specialized developmental care for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age in the child development program. Responsible for technical program oversight of the lower graded assistants, lead program assistants, and technicians providing them mentoring, training and instruction. Revises the daily schedule as necessary. Provides age appropriate developmental care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Follows the Air Force approved curriculum to support children's development. Ensures a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for all children. Serves as a facility safety monitor: conducts daily indoor and outdoor, fire, safety and health inspections of the facility prior to opening. Ensures all employees are following all fire, safety and health requirements. Prepares daily activities for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age that supports the inclusion of children with special needs. In order to qualify, you must meet the basic requirement and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the 1701 Series, General Education and Training series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-04), level, pay band (NJ-01). Specialized experience is described as: Produces desired results, in the needed timeframe, with the appropriate level of supervision through the use of appropriate knowledge, skills, abilities and understanding of the technical requirements of the job. Achieves, demonstrates and maintains the appropriate qualifications necessary to assume and execute key acquisition and/or support requirements. Demonstrates skilled critical thinking in identifying, analyzing and solving complex issues, as appropriate. Takes and displays personal accountability in leading, overseeing, guiding, and/or managing programs and projects within assigned areas of responsibility. OR EDUCATION: Have successfully completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts). OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of specialized experience and education as described above. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education to meet the qualifications of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of comprehensive child development requirements, policies, procedures and processes. Knowledge of appropriate early childhood guidance practices, techniques and programs. Knowledge of physical, intellectual, social, emotional and nutritional stages of development of young chidren in applying basic child development principles, concepts, practices to perform CDC operation assignments. Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing. Ability to adapt planned activities for children's individual skills and lead subordinate employees and foster effective working relationship with others. Ability to ensure the safety and hygiene of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space and proper management of equipment. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
