Housekeeping Aid Supervisor

This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of Canandaigua VA Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks associated with EMS goals and objectives. Duties included but are not limited to:: The position is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. The position plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities. This position is required to coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities. Due to the constant change in the type of patients, provides proper on-the-job training to ensure the housekeeping duties are effectively accomplished. Counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants. The position makes formal appraisal of subordinates works performance and conduct. The position approves leave requests for subordinates. The position is responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment. Provides documented inspection reports and acts on unaccomplished work. Investigates and resolves excessive or low productive problems. Reassigns personnel supervised, and coordinates work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress and to meet schedules. Implements corrective action to solve problems as needed; and inspects completed work for quality and sanitation level requirements. The position supports and communicates management programs to their subordinates. Maintains work reports and records and assists supervisor(s) in planning overall leave schedules. Requests authority to adjust worker assignments and to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules; and recommends changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary and makes minor deviations in procedures or redirects resources under the position's control to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned staff shortages. The position engages with numerous employees, in multiple services of the medical center or healthcare system, in carrying out day-to-day operations on a frequent basis to resolve problems related to staffing, work requirements and operations to recommend resolution. The position is responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned. Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit. The position routinely inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner.
