This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 2, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be October 5, 2026, with weekly cut-off dates every Monday. Applications received after each cut-off date will be reviewed at regular intervals until the position is filled. The Podiatrist is responsible for seeing patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities include screening outpatients and providing ongoing care, ordering diagnostic tests and consultations, writing discharge orders, providing education and counseling to patients and families, performing surgical procedures, and following podiatry inpatients. Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs clinical duties involving the treatment of foot conditions, including corns, calluses, hammer toes, and diabetic foot conditions. Provides toenail care for patients with diabetes or peripheral vascular disease.. Performs surgical procedures for correction of nail and foot problems. Responds to patient telephone calls, informs patients of test results, and renews medication prescriptions. Enters accurate, complete, and timely progress notes for each episode of care into the patient's Electronic Health Care Record. Responsible for the proper use, maintenance, and calibration of specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients. Assists in orientation of new staff and will provide patient and family education, including informed consent. Gives telephone or e-mail advice to other providers. Completes administrative duties as needed. Adheres to safety, health, and infection control standards, regulations and work practices, as well as ergonomic standards. He/she reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate officials. Maintains supplies, equipment and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency. Demonstrates knowledge and maintains standards in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). Expected to participate in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness, administrative duties, and other responsibilities assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Surgical Care ICC. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Podiatrist Staff Requirements Staff Podiatrist Surgical. Should be board qualified or board certified by a Council on Podiatric Medical Education certification board, or other equivalent certification to grant surgical privileges. The individual must possess experience to perform duties as a podiatrist and surgeon, and have completed an accredited residency, and/or possess experience to perform general and surgical duties and some specialized functions and procedures, without supervision. Staff podiatrist surgeons also includes attending physicians who train podiatrist residents, assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine. These podiatrists will perform office based procedures and operating room procedures and are responsible for surgical patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
